Artist
Chebel
Chebel is a Brazilian multimedia artist who seeks, in her work, to investigate alterity and the relationships between memory, body, ecology, ancestry, and the feminine. Graduated in journalism, where her passion for storytelling comes from, she uses various means such as generative art, video, photography, and mapped projection to weave her narratives. Her gaze turns with curiosity and admiration to native peoples, nature and women, who gain prominence in her work, challenging the hegemony of colonial and dystopian stories. She has had works selected in various festivals in Brazil and abroad, such as Amazonia Mapping (Brazil), Aesthetica Short Film (United Kingdom), at.tension (Germany), Bombay Beach Biennale (USA), Mapp (Canada), and Mirrorbowler (Japan), and as part of collective shows in galleries in São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro and New York.
